What is the B1 (GESE Grade 5) Test ?
As per Home Office guidelines, any applicant who is applying for Indefinite Leave to Remain or for Naturalisation / British passport is required to show good knowledge of English and Life in the UK.
In order to fulfill the requirement of Knowledge of Language, applicants need to obtain a qualification at or above Entry level 3 / B1 CEFR, which consists of speaking and listening modules. The test must be listed on the SELT (Secure English Langauge Test) List.
Where can I be able to sit for the SELT approved B1 Test ?

Changes in English Langauge requirement
Since 28th October 2013 the requirement have changed from ESOL (A1) (Entry level 1) level to ESOL (B1) (Entry level 3) level. If you have already passed ESOL at A1 level you have to sit for an ESOL B1 level (Entry level 3) again.
From 5th November 2015 onwards, Home office will not accept qualification which is not on the SELT list as a proof of Knowledge of English Language. All applicant must pass English Test from an examination body that is on the SELT list and conducted at SELT approved examination centre.

A candidate need to pass a SELT B1 test. SELT means Secure English Language Tests. These tests are accepted by the UK Visas & Immigration for visa applications where evidence of English language is required.
